About E-Dreamers
Educating Dreamers (E-Dreamers) is a program that focuses solely on introducing entrepreneurial skills and career awareness to participants with CORIs (Criminal Offender Record Information). Having a CORI changes one's quality of life, attaining viable employment, and a chance at earning a livable wage. Eighty percent of United States employers perform criminal background checks on prospective employees. There has been some progress with the ban, the box movement, and other reform movements, but we also know more needs to be done.
The Office of Juvenile Justice Detention and Prevention (2017), among other scholars and researchers, notes that previous studies have shown that rearrest rates for youth within one year of release from an institution average 55 percent. With recidivism in question, we have to help by breaking free of these cycles of frustration and rejections by employers, changing this narrative, and assisting our E-Dreamer participants on how to put matters in their own hands
We empower participants to look and think outside of the box and consider becoming entrepreneurs, and creators of their dreams. E-dreamers gives young people real-world skills infused with practicality, allowing participants to move toward financial freedom and personal liberation by learning more about being innovative and what's possible even with a history of criminal involvement.
