Shannon Lesley
Head Instructor for DreamCutz
I was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts, and, as the fourth of six children, I had to learn how to share at an early age. It wasn't until my teenage years that I realized I had a gift for taking care of people. My first job was at the age of 13 as an after-school peer leader; I worked tutoring young kids and making sure they had plenty of activities. After graduating from high school, I enrolled in a criminal law program where I wanted to study the law and become a defense attorney one day. After a couple of internships, I realized I didn't have the temperament to follow through.
After working for six years for a security company, I switched gears and moved into the fashion industry, selling men's suits for Men's Wearhouse. There, I reconnected with my passion for service and taking care of people. This love went further as I began to cut my little brother's hair and his friends. Realizing my potential, I signed up for cosmetology school in 2004. This may have been the most humbling experience I have ever encountered as I was the worst student in practically the whole school! Whatever I lacked I made up for in my studies and my discipline, and I practiced non-stop until I became a better stylist.
Upon graduating from hair school, I was offered a job to come back and teach. I obtained my cosmetology and barber credentials in two years and began my employment as an educator at Blaine Beauty Career School in 2007. As an educator, the most rewarding part of my job is watching my students' growth as they progress from being timid and inexperienced to professionals who are licensed and working! My love for teaching hasn't gone anywhere, as I always make it my business in every shop I work in to educate my customers on hair maintenance and my co-workers on new techniques. My mission is to keep educating and keep trying my best to make a difference in as many people's lives as I can as I move through my journey of life!
